What is Strep Throat ?
We all know that strep throat requires antibiotics, right? So widely prescribed for Streptococcus, the first sign of a sore throat can send a suffering patient to the doctor’s office demanding a prescription for this assumed ‘cure.’ A bacterial infection of the throat, strep throat often makes the throat feel sore and scratchy. Common signs and symptoms of strep throat include throat pain, difficulty swallowing, red and swollen tonsils, red spots on the soft or hard palate and swollen lymph nodes in the neck. Additionally, fever, headache, rash, stomachache, vomiting and fatigue are also common.
Natural Cures For Strep Throat
Apple Cider Vinegar
It is very important to treat strep throat as soon as it appears in order to prevent the bacteria from multiplying and causing more serious issues in the body. Apple cider vinegar is an excellent solution for strep throat as is of antibacterial in nature. Take a glass of warm water and add ¼ th teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to it. Drink this many times a day until you get relief from the soreness. Apple cider vinegar can also be used for gargling your throat. Using it several times a day will help you destroy the bacteria associated with strep throat.
Honey will be effective in treating your strep throat infection. It has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that will destroy the bacteria and reduce the inflammation.
Essential oils like grapefruit, lemongrass, lemon, thyme, cinnamon, lavender and sage have been proven to be effective against strep throat because of their excellent antibacterial properties. You can try this recipe:
Mix 5 drops of any of the aforementioned essential oil in water. Put the mixture in a pan and heat on a stove. Take the pan from the stove before it boils. You should then inhale the steam emanating from the mixture for about 10-15 minutes.
You can repeat this procedure as often as needed daily.
Instead of swallowing vitamin C pills you can try drinking tea mixed with honey and lemon which is rich in vitamin C. The vitamin C in the lemon has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties which will help to fight off the infection, soothe the pain and swelling in your throat.
Now don’t be alarmed you are not expected to chew this pepper. To treat your strep throat infection with cayenne pepper just mix a teaspoon of ground cayenne pepper powder to a 1/2 cup of carrier, coconut or olive oil.
Use this mixture as a cream and apply to your throat area. It is also useful for relieving tense muscles.
Garlic is also an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agent. Garlic contains highly concentrated amounts of sulfur that relieve inflammation and filter the blood to remove infection. Garlic is also a good source of manganese, vitamin B6, vitamin C and selenium, which support recovery and overall health as well.
